For a while, often longer than planned, your business will run on two worlds at once. How to keep visibility, control and continuity across both.

For a time, often longer than planned, your business may run across two platforms at once. Alongside the risks within each platform, the interfaces between them need particular attention.
During a phased migration, SAP Sybase databases continue operating alongside cloud services and other database platforms. The result is not simply two technologies running in parallel. It is a single business process spread across different operational models, tools, teams and support arrangements.
Very few enterprise migrations happen in a single cutover. Most move in waves, with SAP ASE, SAP IQ and Replication Server serving some functions while new platforms take over others. Treat that hybrid period as an operating model in its own right, with its own design, ownership and controls, rather than as a temporary inconvenience.
Every system, interface and incident path needs a named owner. Document where vendor responsibilities end, where managed-service responsibilities begin and who coordinates incidents that cross platforms. A simple ownership map prevents the most expensive phrase in operations: "I thought you had that."
Replication, synchronisation and batch transfer all create timing differences and reconciliation risk. Map every data flow between environments, define acceptable latency for each one and design monitoring that detects failed, delayed or incomplete transfers. Where SAP Replication Server is part of the path, make sure its health is monitored as closely as the databases at either end.
Identity, privileged access, encryption, logging and data retention should be assessed across the whole architecture, not platform by platform. Controls may be implemented differently in each environment, but the organisation needs one coherent governance model, and one story it can tell an auditor.

A database can be perfectly healthy while an upstream interface has quietly failed. Build dashboards and alerts around critical business services and the dependencies between platforms. The question to answer is "is the payment run complete?", not "is the server up?"
Disaster recovery becomes significantly more complex when an application spans several environments. Recovery plans must address the order in which systems are restored, how data consistency is re-established between them and which dependencies must be live first. Test them as a whole. A recovery plan that treats each database independently is likely to fail when it is needed.
Hybrid operations often increase costs temporarily: overlapping licences, duplicated hosting, additional monitoring and specialist staffing on both sides. Model these costs openly and revisit them at each migration milestone, so the business is not surprised by the cost of the transition itself.

Insight is the primary product from tdglobal’s Data business. Its SAP Sybase offering includes monitoring and migration capabilities. We recommend defining its role within the wider hybrid operating model. Explore Insight for SAP Sybase
Define measurable retirement criteria early: which data, which interfaces, which users and which approvals must be in place before each legacy component can be switched off. A well-run hybrid period should make decommissioning easier as time goes on, not harder.
